Tracy Morgan is proving once again that comedy isn’t the only thing he delivers big — his heart is just as legendary.
As families across the country brace for the holiday season, Morgan is stepping up in a major way. Speaking with PEOPLE, the comedian revealed he’s helped feed 19,000 families, donating over $200,000 to vulnerable households through his ongoing partnership with the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation.
“It’s fun to get the love and support, but it’s better when you give it back,” Morgan said, explaining that generosity is a lesson he’s determined to pass on to his children. “More than a great education, I just want [Maven] and her brothers to be empathic.”
For Morgan, the holidays aren’t about the spotlight — they’re about family.
“At this point in my life, spending time with my children… that’s it. I don’t care about nothing else in this world.”
Morgan shares 12-year-old daughter Maven Sonae with ex-wife Megan Wollover. He’s also father to sons Gitrid, 39, Malcolm, 38, and Tracy Jr., 34, from his late ex-wife Sabina Morgan, who passed away from cancer in 2016.
His outlook on life shifted dramatically after the devastating 2014 highway crash that left him in critical condition and claimed the life of his friend, James McNair.
“Just when you thought you was doing bad, there’s people out there doing worse,” he said. “So I feel fortunate.”
Despite the heavy memories and hard-earned wisdom, Morgan is as busy — and as funny — as ever. He’s currently starring in Crutch, the Paramount+ spinoff of CBS’s The Neighborhood, playing Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, a beloved Harlem shop owner whose grown kids move back home.
He’s also reuniting with 30 Rock partner Tina Fey in NBC’s upcoming comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, starring as a disgraced former football player opposite Daniel Radcliffe.
His philosophy these days is simple: “You gotta have fun.”
And this holiday season, Tracy Morgan is making sure thousands of families get to do exactly that.
