Samuel L. Jackson Takes the Throne in NOLA King (Tulsa King Spinoff) on Paramount+

Written by on 12/01/2025

Samuel L. Jackson is stepping into his first-ever TV series lead with NOLA King, the newest spinoff from Sylvester Stallone’s hit series Tulsa King on Paramount+.

Jackson’s character, Russell Lee Washington Jr., made his debut in Season 3 of Tulsa King. A former prison ally of Stallone’s Dwight Manfredi, Washington was originally sent to Tulsa by the New York-based Renzetti crime family to take Manfredi out. But instead of pulling the trigger, Washington gets inspired by Dwight’s unexpected rise and the power of a second chance.

In NOLA King, Washington heads back to New Orleans—a city he walked away from forty years ago—to rebuild broken ties with family and reclaim his place in the streets he once ruled. As he tries to seize control of the city he left behind, he’ll have to outrun the wrath of his former employers and square up with enemies who haven’t forgotten his name.

Stallone says the spinoff pushes Tulsa King “beyond a mob boss series, creating a dynamic, family-driven franchise,” adding that “Sam Jackson is the only choice to anchor this new adventure in NOLA.”

Jackson told Collider he’s long been a fan of the universe:

“At least 15 of those shows are on my watchlist all the time. So I’m really happy to be in that universe. I watched Tulsa King, and I liked it even before that idea came up.”

On Jimmy Kimmel Live, Jackson made it clear he hopes to shoot in New Orleans, noting its strong tax incentives—then adding with a smile:

“Why you tryin’ to work cheap? Let’s go to New Orleans!”

While Paramount+ hasn’t announced a premiere date yet, Deadline reported that filming is scheduled to begin in February 2026.
