Newsom–Nicki Minaj Feud Escalates as Social Media Shots Turn Personal

Written by on 12/14/2025

Gavin Newsom and Nicki Minaj’s increasingly bitter online feud took another sharp turn over the weekend, spilling from policy disagreements into pointed personal attacks.

On Saturday (Dec. 13), the California governor posted an Instagram reel featuring images of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, set to Megan Thee Stallion’s track “Hiss.” Newsom highlighted the lyric referencing “Megan’s Law,” a federal statute requiring public notification about registered sex offenders. The line has widely been interpreted as a jab at Minaj and her husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.

Minaj responded swiftly on X, dismissing Newsom with a post that read, “Looks like there’s some new scum on the timeline.” She followed up with another insult aimed at his appearance, writing, “I hate Gavin’s new salt & pepper shake front. I mean, Lace front. RIP it off.”

The clash traces back to Newsom’s recent appearance on The Ezra Klein Show, where he reiterated his support for transgender youth, including in sports.

“I want to see trans kids,” Newsom said during the interview. “I have a trans godson. There’s no governor who has signed more pro-trans legislation than I have.”

Minaj seized on those remarks, criticizing Newsom in a separate X post. “Imagine being the guy running on wanting to see trans kids,” she wrote. “Normal adults wake up & think they want to see HEALTHY, SAFE, HAPPY kids. Not Gav. The Gav Nots. GavOUT.”

While Newsom has not issued a direct response since the Instagram post, Minaj has continued to escalate. In a later post featuring what appeared to be an AI-generated image of Newsom behind bars, she accused the governor of reducing himself to political opportunism.

“Career politician at the brink of his moment realigns to become nothing more than a Nicki Minaj ANTI,” she wrote. “So now he’s the guy running on ‘wanting to see trans kids’ AND willing to lower himself to becoming just another FEMALE RAPPER to get obliterated by NICKI MINAJ.”

The exchange underscores how the dispute between the rapper and the governor has shifted from ideological disagreement to personal provocation, playing out in real time across social platforms with no clear signs of cooling off.
