Drake Curse Snapped As Canada Advances Past South Africa

Written by on 06/29/2026

Drake just turned a million-dollar moment into proof that his legendary curse might finally be broken for good.

The 6ix God wagered $770,000 on Canada defeating South Africa in their FIFA World Cup Round of 32 matchup at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, June 28, and his home country delivered with a stunning 1-0 victory.

Stephen Eustaquio scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute, sending Canada to its first-ever World Cup knockout stage and securing Drake a cool million-dollar payout.

Drake posted the bet on Instagram with a direct shot at his South African collaborator Black Coffee, writing, “@realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM I had to raise the STAKES.”

The Stake promoter’s confidence came riding high off the success of his ICEMAN trilogy, and this time his instincts paid off in a major way.

For years, the Drake Curse has been a running joke in sports culture, suggesting that anyone Drake publicly supports ends up losing.

His Super Bowl bet on the New England Patriots earlier this year went sideways, and his wager on Jake Paul to beat Anthony Joshua also fell flat.

The curse seemed real and relentless.

But the narrative’s more complicated than the meme suggests.

The Toronto Raptors’ championship run a decade ago built enough goodwill to last years, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Finals last season with Drake’s support firmly in place.

This Canada victory adds another layer to the story, proving that Drake’s betting luck isn’t entirely cursed.

Drake’s winning moment comes as he’s also preparing exclusive Janice parties across North America today, continuing his celebration of the ICEMAN era.
