Kid Cudi Defends Ye Chicago Reunion After Peter Rosenberg Bucks Back

Kid Cudi confronted Peter Rosenberg over his restored bond with Ye in Chicago.

Kid Cudi defended his reunion with Kanye West aka Ye at Chicago’s Soldier Field after Peter Rosenberg questioned the rapid embrace of the controversial superstar.

What looked like a warm reconciliation Friday night with 2 Chainz, Common, and finally Kid Cudi, quickly became a debate. We’re talking forgiveness, accountability and whether personal relationships should be judged by the public.

Cudi surprised the Soldier Field crowd Sept. 4 when he joined Ye for “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” and “Ghost Town.” He later performed “Pursuit of Happiness.”

The appearance placed the longtime collaborators together onstage again after years of public friction. I believe 2019 was the last year.

The reunion arrived amid Ye’s broader return to live performance following years of controversy over antisemitic statements and conduct. Ye released a song titled “Heil Hitler” in 2025, sold swastika shirts and made Holocaust denial statements. Yes, that is a lot.

Earlier this year, he publicly apologized to the Jewish community and attributed some of his past behavior to bipolar disorder and manic episodes.

Peter to the Rosenberg was not ready to celebrate.

“A lot of people I love are being openly lame about Kanye I am not saying no one deserves forgiveness or empathy but this man sang Heil Hitler ONE YEAR AGO. Disappointed in a lot of people,” Rosenberg wrote on X.

Cudi took the criticism personally and responded with a lengthy explanation of why his relationship with Ye operates by a different standard.

“I understand ur frustration Peter, I fucks w u, but I dont really care if ur disappointed in me. That man is my brother. U dont have a relationship w him like I do. Damn near 2 decades of art and friendship. U not family. So I get it. Ive been around Ye, and I can honestly say talking to him now is how it use to be when I first signed to him, but even better. He was dealing w mental health struggles for years and now hes good. Everyone deserves some grace when they family. I was the hardest on him out of anybody. I held him accountable. He apologized and it was sincere. But like I said, u not family so I get it.”

He’s definitely on his hit dog holler ish. He easily could have said nothing.

The history behind those words runs deep. Ye signed Cudi to G.O.O.D. Music in 2008 and their creative partnership produced numerous collaborations before eventually yielding their 2018 joint album “Kids See Ghosts.”

Their relationship later deteriorated publicly, including a 2022 rupture connected to Cudi’s friendship with Pete Davidson. Davidson was smashing Kim K at a point.

Rosenberg subsequently indicated his criticism was aimed more broadly at the enthusiastic public rehabilitation of Ye than Cudi’s ability to privately forgive someone he considers family.

Seems like peace has prevailed.

Cudi can decide what an apology means inside a relationship spanning almost two decades. Rosenberg can decide that Ye’s public history demands something more.
