Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Queen of Sprinting, Announces Her Retirement

Written by on 10/12/2025

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce — the most decorated 100-meter sprinter in history — is officially stepping away from the track.

The three-time Olympic gold medalist and 10-time world champion announced her retirement on Instagram after nearly two decades of dominating the sport.

“For the past 18 years, time down to the very millisecond—has been at the epicenter of my life,” Fraser-Pryce wrote. “Time has been the measure, the test and the reward. Every day of training, each of my 275 races, every step to the starting line was my own pursuit to not only utilize the time given but to make it my own. For nearly two decades, I have made every second count, and I give God all the glory for blessing me with a career in something I have grown to love so deeply.”

A Historic Career That Redefined Sprinting

Fraser-Pryce became the global face of women’s sprinting, claiming three Olympic golds and five world titles in her signature 100-meter event. She also earned Olympic and World Championship medals in the 200m, cementing her legacy as one of the greatest sprinters of all time.

Fraser-Pryce dominance started at home in Jamaica, where she won seven National Championships before taking her talent worldwide.

Beyond the track, Fraser-Pryce has been a driving force in shaping the future of women in sports. She’s a founding member of Nike’s Athlete Think Tank, which empowers female athletes to influence how the brand supports women across disciplines.

A Crowning Moment Fit for a Legend

Fraser-Pryce legendary status was honored in New York on Friday (Oct. 10) at the ATHLOS event at Icahn Stadium. Tennis icon Serena Williams crowned her during a Tiffany & Co. crowning ceremony.

“This is the legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce… Even as an outsider to the sport, you know this name, you know this icon,” said Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband and founder of ATHLOS, during an interview with CBS Mornings.

“Something that was so important for us is not just to have a special Tiffany crowning moment for Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce at our event but also another GOAT, Serena Williams, she is going to be the one doing the crowning.”

Fraser-Pryce leaves behind not just records but a blueprint for greatness — a symbol of speed, grace, resilience, and power.

Boston track fans, and the world, will be talking about this retirement for years to come.
