Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stunned fans at the Venice Film Festival on Aug. 30, revealing a slimmer, nearly unrecognizable look while promoting his new film The Smashing Machine.

The professional wrestler traveled to the City of Water to promote his new film, “The Smashing Machine,” in which he plays UFC champion Mark Kerr.
In the biopic, Johnson portrays former UFC champion Mark Kerr — a role that pushed him to lose about 60 pounds and undergo an extensive makeover with 13–14 prosthetics during filming.
“This transformation was something I was hungry to do,” Johnson told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve been fortunate in my career, but there was a voice inside saying, ‘What if I could do more?’”
Fans lit up social media with reactions. One called his new appearance “insane,” while another predicted it could be “the best performance of his career.” Others joked, “The Rock turned into a pebble — but even pebbles make a splash!”
The drastic shift marks one of Johnson’s most ambitious career moves yet, as he trades his trademark blockbuster physique for a rawer, more vulnerable role.

“This transformation was something I was really hungry to do,” Johnson said of his role in the Benny Safdie-directed biopic at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend, per the Hollywood Reporter.
“I had been very fortunate to have the career that I’ve had over the years and to make the films that I’ve made, but there was just a voice inside of me, a little voice that said, ‘Well, what if I could do more — I want to do more and what does that look like?’” he added.
Additionally, in June, Johnson revealed that he had been struggling with gut-related health issues for years.
