Elon Musk Knocked Off the Top — Larry Ellison Is Now the World’s Richest Man
Written by b87fm on 09/10/2025
Elon Musk just lost his crown.
After holding down the title of world’s richest person for most of the year, the Tesla boss has officially been passed by Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, whose net worth just rocketed to a staggering $393 billion, per Bloomberg. Some outlets even put him north of $400 billion.
The 81-year-old mogul made the leap thanks to Oracle’s record-breaking stock surge on Sept. 10 — jumping more than 40% in a single day, its biggest spike since 1992. The company is betting big on AI-driven cloud infrastructure, projecting nearly $144 billion in revenue over the next four years. Investors ate it up.
Ellison, who still owns more than 40% of Oracle, has been stacking billions since co-founding the software giant back in the late ’70s. He served as CEO for 37 years before stepping aside in 2014, though he still calls shots as CTO.
Outside of tech, Ellison stays busy — from helping engineer the $8B Paramount/Skydance merger with his son David, to buying 98% of the Hawaiian island of Lana’i (yes, he basically owns an island).
And he and Musk aren’t strangers either. Ellison sat on Tesla’s board from 2018 to 2022 and has long been considered an ally of Musk — though now he’s sitting on the bigger bag.
In a rare statement earlier this summer, Ellison said he’s turning more of his focus toward his Ellison Institute of Technology, aiming to tackle hunger, healthcare, and climate change. But with Oracle’s historic stock surge, it’s clear the billionaire just got an even bigger war chest to play with.
We salute you Ellison, working to make the world a better place!
