Cardi B Shuts Down “Industry Plant” Rumors Once and for All

Cardi B has heard just about every rumor you can imagine, but there’s one that’s followed her for years — and now she’s finally addressing it head-on.
During her appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast Wednesday (Sept. 24), the Grammy-winning rapper opened up about her divorce from Offset, her fantasies, and the long-standing claim that she was an “industry plant” brought in to replace other women in rap.
“People have made this whole story that I came into the industry to, like, take over somebody’s career, but I never thought that,” Cardi explained. “I just wanted to become famous at what I like to do. Sometimes people just don’t get along with each other.”
Cardi B says she’s no industry plant! She addresses the longtime rumors that she’s an industry operation meant to disrupt the hip hop status quo.

The conspiracy took off after her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow.” Kanye West added fuel back in 2018 when a leaked video showed him calling Cardi “a plant by the Illuminati” who was pushed into the spotlight to replace Nicki Minaj.
Though Cardi never addressed Ye’s words directly at the time, she later reposted a clip of him praising her in an interview with Jason Lee, where he admitted,
“I always believed in her, since she was on the show, period.”
Nicki Minaj hasn’t commented on the latest wave of chatter, though she recently announced her next album is dropping in March 2026.
For Cardi, though, the noise isn’t stopping her grind.
“This is what I was destined for,” she said. “No matter who signed me, no matter what, I was going to be famous and I was going to be a rapper.”
