Jennifer Lopez Finally Breaking Her Silence On Divorce To Ben Affleck in Candid Interview: It Was The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me

Written by on 09/29/2025

Jennifer Lopez is finally breaking her silence on the highs and lows of her relationship with Ben Affleck — and how their divorce reshaped her.

Over the weekend, J.Lo sat down with Lee Cowan on CBS Sunday Morning to promote her role in the upcoming remake of Kiss of the Spider Woman. During the interview, she reflected on navigating separation and divorce while keeping her career moving.

“It was the best thing that ever happened to me, because it changed me,” Lopez said. “It didn’t change me; it helped me grow in a way that I needed to grow. Become more self-aware. I’m a different person now than I was last year, I think.”

Lopez credited Affleck’s studio, Artist Equity, for backing the film and giving her stability during one of her toughest times.

“It was like the best and the worst of times,” she admitted. “Every moment on set I was so happy, and then at home it was not great. I kept asking, ‘How do I reconcile this?’”

Lopez and Affleck’s love story has been followed for over 20 years. They began dating in 2002 and were briefly engaged before splitting in 2004. Nearly two decades later, the couple reunited in 2021, tied the knot in 2022, but divorced in August 2024. Their split was finalized in January 2025.

Now, Lopez says the heartbreak has only made her stronger — and more focused on her growth as both an artist and a person.
